Does anyone else feed their lps?

This is the part of coral coloration that I am still trying to figure out. Zooxanthellae is supposed to give corals their vivid colors, but then too much zooxanthellae and the coral ends up turning brown.

Does anyone else feed their lps?

^^ This :) The folks at Red Sea concluded that corals derive 15% or their nutritional needs from (proper) food. So it is a significant boost, but only goes so far. The other 85% comes from zoox poop.

    bubble algae problem

I was dealing with a bubble algae outbreak too and this is what I am doing to try to keep it under control. 1. Bought emerald crabs (ordered 5, only 2 survived shipping). The emerald crabs in my tank only seem interested in the tiny bubble algae. They ignore larger ones. One actually dislodged...

    Kessil flickering when "off."

Yeah it sounds like the timer could be defective where it still closes the circuit randomly. If it is a mechanical type, some of the contacts might not be lined up properly and hitting each other at certain times even when set to 'Off'

Does anyone else feed their lps?

I feed my lps pellets and frozen mysis/brine shrimp every now and then. But not on any set schedule. They seem to be catching live mysids in the tank just fine on their own so I don't baby them too much.

    Zoa ID

Anyone know what these zoas/palys could be? #1 Orange palythoa The skirt has alternating bands of orange and translucent purple. And the mouth has a yellow border. The young polyps start out as drab purple. As they mature they gain more orange color throughout the disks and skirt. They also...

Don't wanna break it, help. Wp40

Just as I post that my pump is working again, it got stuck again when it is set to W1/S3 ! lol. So I have to run the controller at max speed just to get some flow out of the pump. But then when it shifts back to normal it causes a storm in my tank :) I am taking it off-line for now just to be...

Don't wanna break it, help. Wp40

Did you figure out what was wrong with your WP40? Out of the blue, mine appears to be working properly again. It seems to go through periods where it does not get enough power and then go back to normal after a few days. I wonder if I have a bad AC adapter.

Don't wanna break it, help. Wp40

I'm having similar issues with my WP40 this week. H1-H3 setting seem so much weaker than before. With W1, it runs when I have the speed at S1 (100%) and S2 (75%) but also seems much weaker. At W1/S3 the impeller turns one time after plugging it in and then it gets stuck. I already took it...

State of the art filtration lifeguard aquatics

Those look like the filtration systems pictured in old aquarium books I used to read... back in '85! It might be a nice display item for a reef convention "This is what old reefers used to deal with..."

How to restart or reset a tank???

If you want to completely nuke the rocks, I would do it this way: 1. Soak the rocks in bleach solution for a couple of days. 2. Rinse with tapwater, and soak again in tapwater for a day or two (save RO for later). 3. Blast the rocks with a garden hose to get all the dead matter and detritus out...
