I like salifert test kits. Bit more exspensive but work good
Ive read quite a bit about Salifert giving people false readings and having their tank crash. Anyone had this experience or is this just a couple people with big mouths online?

Tanks crash by people committing errors or equipment malfunctions. If you know your tank a test will keep you with in parameters by telling you what's currently is going on.
Salifert has been linked to inaccurate alkalinity readings. Compared to 4 other tests the difference is negligible. I've used every alkalinity test and salifert is a good test. I think the la motte is good but just takes 7 times longer to do.

I've been using API for Nitrate, Alk, Calcium, pH, and P04yes its cheap not dead on accurate, but it gives me a base at where I am at and yes at least I do test my tank water..... I also use Salifert for Mag testing. Since my API test kit is almost done, I'll probably upgrade to Red Sea Test kits and a Hanna for p04.
