I have been building and cycling my new 90G reef tank for a few months and I will soon stock some new fish. Some known to be jumpers... Question is I have 4 inch eurobracing around my tank 42" x 24" so do I still need to make some sort of cover or will the eurobracing prevent the suicide mission?
Hope this isnt too dumb of a question but can the fish jump from the middle and clear the eurobraced edge of the tank?:blink:

Darn!! LOL thought that would be the answer.... What types of lids have people made for their open tanks that are oh so popular these days.....

They not only can clear that, they can clear loose netting, non weighed down netting screen, a canopy and an oversized light fixture and still find a way out to the front of my tank. Depends on the size of the wrasse. Larger ones are super strong and will lift screens enough to leap basically to their deaths.

Wrasse keepers will find out a screen lid is a must.

IME, clear 1/4" mesh from BRS blocks out about 5% of the PAR

I have the 1/4" clear mesh with my tank in a screen kit from HD and it works great. I have checked the par with and without the mesh and it is barley any different. In my tank it is a non issue

I use egg crate, works great when I don't forget to put it back on after working on the tank. cut inside the frame and rests on top of the eurobrace.

The fish will easily jump through the egg crate. I used it and had multiple jumpers. Also the egg crate is a light difuser and can spread light or pinpoint it depending on which way you have it facing. Clear mesh is a much better option
