That won't work because we're staining the wood, not painting. Thanks anyway though

So back to my original question... centered with small gap or butt up to moulding above but off center?

Stainable wood filling. I prefer the centered look but gotta find something to fill gap. You've taken this much time to build it, you don't want to over look the finishing touches to really set it above and beyond the other custom made stands.

I have done my share of woodworking and furniture refinishing and had already thought of using wood filler... only problem is I have never worked with a wood filler that stains as dark as the wood so Idk if that would be a great idea... might stick out like a sore thumb

I decided to butt up the top trim together for no gap and I think it turned out nice. Thanks for the input.
Not the greatest pics because I just got finished putting on all the trim and filling nail holes with filler and it's dark outside but here's how it turned out.

Updated pics in the light of day... also I sanded down all the wood filler I did last night and I filled some more holes and cracks that I missed in the dark yesterday. It's almost ready to start staining!

Would it be rude to say my first thought seeing it in the dark had the sides been filled in it would have looked like a crypt?! :)

Given you're in LA I 'd have been checking for any voodoo types looking for a new resting place! :D

Shoot Its nice without stain how it sits. I'd just put a varnish over it and call it a day.
Thanks. I want it to match my living room furniture though :)
Nice stand. Espresso color is nice.
I agree... I like dark stains. I am using English chestnut by Minwax... it is a nice rich color with red undertones in it. We bought a small can of most colors and this one is the one that matched my other furniture the best.
Try using a veneer, like cherry wood for the doors. That way you don't get those brown pepperoni nipples.
They don't really bother me that much. I think we're gonna be able to use the old doors and just fancy them up like we did the stand. If not, we'll still use one because IME different types of wood stain differently and I want it all to match. I got both sides stained tonight and most of the front and then I ran out of the stain. Ugghhh! Makes me mad that one couldn't finish it!
What's the matter with peperoni nipples
Hahaha
