How can you say tariffs are bad? How can you want your products to be made in China?
How can you say We don’t pay Tariffs while other countries charge us tariffs?
How can you not want big companies to move their factories here?
How can you not want more work for our people here?
Don’t you know that Apple is already moving from China to here which is one of the biggest company in the world also caterpillar, GE, Intel, under Armour, NAVID, are amongst other companies that are starting to build here in America. Why wouldn’t you want that? It just mind-boggling me!

I try not to involve myself in these types of threads because people are usually married to their belief system and there's no use in trying to change someone's opinions about their political views...especially on a reef forum. So all i will say is that tariffs or no tariffs, companies from the US can all come back to manufacture everything here and all the money in the world can be kept in the US, the issue still stands. CORRUPT POLITICIANS (BOTH REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS) ARE MISMANAGING OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS and getting rich while doing so...all while keeping us divided and fighting each other and until we knock it off will we continue this vicious cycle where they have us by the balls. United we stand, divided we fall...reef on my reef brothers and sisters!

Yup! 100% agree on this one bro. I’d be happy if they could fix Cali alone. Everything else would be a bonus.

Well.....looks like he blinked....except for the solar panels....
I am sure it will go back and forth for awhile while the investors close to him cash in and out, in and out, in and out to make billions of dollars. Just how they have been doing.

I am sure some Democrat will launch an investigation and spend millions of dollars investigating the market manipulation and the insider trading that transpired. I am reasonably sure nothing will become of it.

The problem is not bringing it back to the US, the problem is making a profit if you do. First, it costs a lot of time and money to move manufacturing back to US. The US labor rates are much higher, so if they bring widget #1 back to US… then it’ll cost 5x more than made in China because you have to pay higher labor and recoup cost of relocating manufacturing. Fine. It used to cost $10 will now cost $50. what if Trump drops the tariffs after you relocate? Now, your overseas competitors are going to sell cheaper because they have lower costs and you go bankrupt. Let’s say Trump keeps the tariffs, your volume will drop significantly because less people want to pay $50, and you also cannot sell to other countries because you are not price competitive outside US, and take a loss on every unit sold outside US. So no exports and you lost the global market.

What would you do if you were the owner of manufacturer of widget #1? You don’t have a way out.

Don’t you have a 3 hour protest from 5 years ago to be complaining about?

it would be impressive if you could actually explain what those 34 charges were for. Truth is that Biden Harris Weaponized the justice system the exact same way Adolf Hitler did and only a Nazi would defend those charges.
34 counts of falsifying business records. These are actual crimes whether you want to believe them or not.

They’re not manufacturing anything though, they’re just setting up servers for AI. iPhones will still be made overseas.

Another apple PR BS said the same thing in 2021 and the NC office never came in fruition. Said the same thing in 2018. Don't believe it when they say they "plan to" only when it actually happens.
I work in one of the largest swimming pool equipment manufacturer in the US and we are not moving or investing in factories in the US. Rent is too high, labor is too expensive, and in fact most of our assemblers are immigrants (who are amazing at their job btw)

I will give credit if Trump actually keeps the tariff high. But everyone can tell he’ll cave on tariffs because it is so poorly planned and executed. The tariffs are calculated based on wrong equations. It is not being applied correctly. It can change overnight based on 1 person instead of real policy. He’s being advised by a fictitious expert named Ron Vara. Small businesses cannot react. Supply chains cannot react because of the uncertainty of whether these tariffs will change.

Just imagine you run a LFS, and need to stock powerheads and pumps, which are all made in China. Let's say you believe Trump in keeping tariffs high, so you import 10 pumps at 145% more paid to US customs. So instead of $200 per pump, you are paying $500 per pump. But next week, if Trump caves and say the tariffs are dropped to 50% because some kind of "deal" was made....but you just lost $200 per pump x 10. The problem is this is every small business dilemma and multiplied by every part they stock. There is no alternative to switching to another pump. If he keeps the tariffs at 1 number and keeps it there, okay fine...I think people can adjust to that. But it's just changing too much on a whim or some "deal". It can't change from 35% to 75% to 125% and 145%, and who knows where it goes...soon it'll be below 100% and lower lower. We can't do business this way.

Will he really stand behind his tariffs or just fold like a weak cheap suit? We will see.

LOL. Trump already saying tariffs will fall...oh brother. Who is going to import anything? Now they know that tariffs will be coming down...who wants to stock inventory at higher tariffs and take the loss on every item they stock and import from China? The uncertainty is worse than the actual tariff.

I would respect him if he actually had the balls to keep tariffs high and make me believe he actually has some belief in his tariffs. But if he changes his mind every week....come on!

I'd imagine most dry goods are going to up in price. Which sucks for the hobby, but the price of entering the hobby or maintaining it has been skyrocketing for the last decade plus anyway. Look at all the FS threads of people getting out over the last few years specifically. The economy was shit already, no matter what people claim.

The dems screwed the pooch big time between Biden not really being president due to his mental decline, constant lies and nothing being transparent. A crap economy masked by printing money. Housing costs increased and we flood the gates with a bunch of undocumented individuals seeking sanctuary. We basically advertised everywhere for them to come. I believe 100% that was to bring in more Biden and then Harris votes. Then they send money all over the world to anyone, except our own tax payers and citizens in need. What about Hawaii? What about NC? Hopefully CA fairs a little better than them with everyone who got affected. But its looking like another land grab opportunity, we've all seen the Newsom interview. It's an absolute joke. Everyone focuses on tariffs but blinks an eye when it's discovered the trillions of US tax paying dollars that has been being sent all over the world for BS causes. Could that money not help us limp along as a country until we get back on our own two feet?

Heres an "If"- if that financial waste is halted and we bring industry back to US soil, paying US citizens to work those jobs and start redirecting tax paying dollars towards citizens I think the economy could turn out better, stronger and much more stable over time. The world would be cleaner, environmentally. We would have stricter emissions standards on industry on our soil. China upscales coal burning power plants to build and provide us with Green Energy equipment and its a damn joke. We can't do anything about it since we are reliant on them still. Side note, Solar is a joke IMO. Its not cost effective and an example of a mandatory waste of tax payer's dollars . Even with slave labor over in China, panels/systems are too expensive to NOT rely on government incentives/backing ( more US taxpaying dollars) to make them a financially positive option for home owners. Without big daddy gov, solar would have flopped right out the gate, and rightfully so. "Oh but evil Edison is jacking the rates up uncontrollably?!" Solar is stealing customers off a grid that the energy provided had to build, still has to maintain and service, AND supply to all the lost customers for when their Chinese crap system fails. It's all an absolute joke IMO. Similar to electric cars and their battery lifespans. Not being rebuildable. Charging mostly at night, off the grid that's mostly being provided by a coal burning facility at this point. All those wind turbines are a joke. I can never seem to find how much of CA's grid is actually powered by some of the green methods? Like a straight up percentage?

The meme above is dog shit IMO and an insult to our own. Most hands would still be up. If there is truth to that it's a result of a broken middle class, due to too low of wages, not due to people not wanting to physically work anymore. If US industry didn't need to compete with a BS country like China then wages would be better and the jobs would be more sought after. If middle class didn't need to support the unemployed and illegal, it would be even better.

I'm not a fan of China at all. Nothing race based, but their actions all point to them not being a "friend" of the US. They take our money, flourish off our business, and ignore our concerns while showing zero respect for us.
I think the tariff plan could work with time. But I do fear 4 years is not long enough to see positive changes from the plan, and the pendulum will swing back and we will be absolutely screwed at that point unfortunately. It'll be someone coming in, spending the first few years undoing everything while we all pay for it.
