No that was with ATI ICP

I’ve heard that. Mine was shredded and mostly gone in the mp40 with no negative effects. Maybe in those cases the tank couldn’t handle the bio load. I do always have light carbon going so that could have possibly saved me.

Always a bummer but this really sucks. I got it from a buddy and it was such a cool fish. First one at the nori sheet and was constantly checking tank mates. Hopefully I don’t start to see issues pop up without him in there taking care of business. He will be missed!

I’ve misplaced my feeder door and he was mostly dried out on top of my net lid. I drug him in reverse in the tank and held him in front of the mp40 to try and see if he’d revive with water forced threw the gills. Hell, ya never know with a thick slim coated wrasse, they’re scrappy!

So, I'm going full boar at this algae issue now. It took out my JF Jolt frag by smothering it, my fault I let it get way to overgrown.

My sea hare has been fine so far, never ended up splitting on me. I've added another to speed up the process a bit. I came across a orange spotted rabbit fish, very tiny, I'm adding as well. He's currently in teh acclimation box so if I see too much aggression it will be a no go. It's actually my blue star leopard and moyeri that are really going the box right now.

They also had several cleaner wrasse that were eating very well so I picked one up also as a replacement.

While freshwater dipping the new additions I noticed a baby berghia in my sump, so that's a major plus!

Why not run an algae scrubber to out compete algae in the tank?

I have an ATS on hand but I’ve struggled with it for that purpose in the past. I feel like it can’t outcompete algae without striping nutrients and and effecting coral. I think they work well for keeping it from popping up in the display by popping up there first. My nutrients currently bottom out easily with how much I have now. When it zeroed out last I got bad dinoflagellates

I'm curious what your algae looks like because I'm going through the same thing right now and am also considering adding a sea hare. I'm pretty sure mine is just GHA but it has grown so long now that none of my clean up crew will touch it. Does your sea hare tackle long filament algae?

I thought I had made it through my ugly stage but I'm still under the 1 year mark on a bare bottom started with dry rock so I guess this is just the next stage I have to get through. Pic of my current situation:

Best GHA tool so far. Grab, clip and then twist it up like pasta. Let it roll up against the rock a d there’s no tugging either, probably would have saved my scape if I thought about it sooner.

Another trick I’ve found is this little hang on fish box. Fill it with water and float it inside the tank. the algae falls right off your tools or fingers when you dunk them.

It's still cringe worthy BUT I can see bare rock and that clear path is where I had done most my work on Saturday (3 freaking hours). So once I got it shorter the cuc started going to work on it. It’s nice to get some forward momentum on this. I do need to start dosing and or feeding the coral again I feel I lost a few pieces that I wouldn’t have if there were nutrients present in the tank. Last week you could only see some coral poking out.
I was able to rehome my leopard wrasse to a member here with a 300g so that is awesome. I removed most the sand and will be cutting out the den sometime soon. I found my lawnmower blenny in the sump so he went for a ride and isn’t dead, went right to work.

I have 2 seahares in the tank right now. One for about 3 weeks and the other a week. I saw algae tuffs flying for the first day both times I added them then not so much. I think they got tired of the food and moved onto film algae, or another type. They definitely start to mow it down better once it's shorter. Be sure to check you RODI, I think that's where/why mine originally took off.
I upped my cuc with
5 small turbos
20 cortez hermits
5 scarlet hermits
10 blue leg hermits
10 round shell snails, not sure what they were in the assorted section and I didn't have them so I said screw it.

I decided to add more hermits as I felt maybe they would "cut" it down and help the snails get in there or at least pluck it up. I have been getting a decent amount of lose GHA stuck in my mp40s daily so maybe that's helping.

Cool this is good info. I've always felt hermits are pretty worthless but let me know if you see success.

I decided to go the cheater route and will be trying out Continuum Bacter Clean-M. It's very similar to Vibrant (may even be identical) and has some good reviews. I'll let you know how it goes...only on day 2 right now.

Sounds good, hope it works well for ya. Sounds bacteria based so keep an eye on those nutrients

Have you ever used Dr. Tim’s One and Only? My 60g really cleaned up nicely after I dumped a bottle in.

I don't think I did on this system because I had the prodibo bacteria on hand when I transfered. I dose that every 10 days. I'll dump some in and see though. I've used it on past system for start ups and it works great. Always good to get a few different types in there. I gotta hit you up and get some of that phyto from ya too, I'm pod-less.

I harvested today. I let it go 10 days this time and it came out more dense. There was lots of movement under the microscope.

I’m also culturing pods! I have tigger pods going right now and I have Tisby pods coming in. I’ll hook you up.
