such a sweetheart. now you understand sanhish. i think 3x250 would be better with your 4 t-5. just my preference 2x250 i dont think its enough. but its your reef tank
Although it can be difficult to decipher Sahn's posts... he is saying that even with 2x 250w mh's, you will not have a lot of light penetrating to the bottom of a 30" tall tank so you May want to think about 400w mh's or keep only very low light corals at the bottom of your tank. 175w would not be enough IMO

that depends on how much spread you want hahah high the light, the more spread but it will bleed out f the tank and less par. norally 4-6" of the top but there are drawbacks heat.

Why wouldn't you do 400 watt mh's on a 30" deep tank? If you want an Sps tank and a 30" one you'd be wise to get some punch. I do like the look of tall tanks but they have sooooooo many disadvantages.
1) pain to clean and any maintenance will suck.
2) scape needs to be taller, more rock, may never be satified
3) stronger light to penetrate the depth
4) good luck grabbing something under an under structure that's in the back. Good luck if you drop something or a a frag becomes unglued.
5) flow is gonna be tough to get everywhere high and low

lol.

First off thank you for taking the time and giving me your info, honestly means a lot.

if i get more ppl saying 400 is a better fit, ill go with it. just have to wait and see what others have to say. When it comes to cleaning i have a nice tool to take care of all the hard to reach spots. Flow am going to get a really strong pump, and if i have to ill add more mp60 to the tank. I also have a frag tank, so any frag i get always goes there first than a few months later once its grown some what i move it to the display tank.

I agree with wicked. go shallow. my current tank is 95x30x30. total pain in butt to clean. its not the width, the height is a real pain. not a day goes by that I dont wish I got less than 24 on height.

i honestly dont want to run 2x400. i think my 2x250 and 4x80 t5 will do the job. just need to know how far off the surface of the water i should hang my lights. also whats a good strong but efficient pump.
Your honestly not going to have enough light. Six ft tank you will need a min of 3 250w reflectors. And at 30" I wouldn't run anything higher then a 14000k bulb prefably Phoenix.

Anthony forget about the 30" tall!!! Do a foot wider and make the tank 24" tall. U will regret it. Tall reef tanks are super hard to aquascape. It will become a Job and less of a fun hobby.

listen to us!!!!

A 24" tall tank will be easier to maintain and cheaper to setup! IMO nothing is nicer than a long wide shallow reef tank.

Just the cost to stock a 30" tall tank is enough to shy away. Now a 20" tank you don't need that many colonies. 4 boxes and you're done.
