i dont mean to question what you have to say, just want some more info behind what you stated. so i can get a better understanding.
As far as what? I say what I say because unless you have bomb a$$ reflectors 2 250 are not going to have proper spread now sure two will light the tank fine if you were doing fish only however if you plan on keeping any kind of Sps your par on the end of the tank will be horrible. So in order to have proper spread with decent par from end to end you will need a minimum of 3 reflectors. Now as far as why I say no higher then a 14000k bulb prefably Phoenix is because the high the kelvin of bulb the less punch it has and since your tank is 30" you need as much punch as possible **** I'd run 10k with super blue t5 sups if I had your setup.

I've seen 400's in lots of 24" tall tanks and they have some of the best Sps around. My current tank was 2x400 watt radiums before and it was full Sps by previous owner. Let me get a pic somewhere.

Ya Greg Carroll is running 3-400w MHs over his 24" tall 225. I think it's way overkill and I think he agreed. Last time I was at his house, I think he wanted to switch back to 250s. He had 600par on the sand bed. Lol

He has a gnarly SPS dom tank though.

Can someone please talk this guy out of a 30" tall tank. This is gunna be such a sweet build if it were 20-24".

so looks like the new dems will be 84x24x30. Now just need to make sure the tank isnt to big for the room its going in
You'll definitely need a 72" fixture now. 3 x 250 radiums in lumenmax elites with t5's and you'll be golden. I honestly think you'll need more flow too, especially if you're going sps dominate.

PGR - how many MH's do you have on yours? I had 3 250s over my 72" and can easily see where 4 over an 84" could be needed.

Glad to see all the talk on the 30" height. You've talked me out of it too.

Looking forward to seeing this beast come to life!

Those are my exact dims. Your gonna love it. Now to just get you to go with the external overflow and you will be set. Lol
do you have one or two external overflow boxes?

so now i got two more things to take care of.

1. to go with the external or not
2. if the hamiltion cebu sun fixture thats 72' long with 3x250 at 20k and with 4x80t5 will be good lighting. Or is 3x250 an overkill? because i plan on keeping acans and chalices and dont want to burn them.

So lets get talking need to have all the info together by friday afternoon ppl.

Dims measure in LxWxH. Is your tank still 30" tall? Or did you mean 84x30x24?
Pretty sure that's what he means.

I have one external overflow similar to a coast to coast but it doesn't run the full length of the tank. Its in the center and skims a huge portion of the tank. This also allowed me to have 3 1 1/2 drains and 4 returns for the tank

3 250w halides and the t5s will be ok. Don't do any less. Maybe later you can add more if you feel its needed.

Because of the place I wanted my tank I didn't have any more room to place an external overflow but I really wish I had it. I would go external coast to coast. I Definitely will on my next upgrade years later.

So do you think I should get the cebu fixture that's 72 inches and that comes with3x250 MH and 4 t5
Yes and the height of the fixture will really depend on the coverage you want so you will have to play with it. 3 250 mh could cover a 30'' deep tank but quality reflectors will be needed.
