For about 2 years, I tried to do clownfish breeding but due to career circumstances I had to quit prematurely.. During that time, I got into the habit of hypo-salinity to ward off disease on my breeding pairs.... after almost two years of leveling it at 1.019 it became a standard for me...

So when I got back into having a mix reef system about 10 months ago and I kept it at that level... for awhile my soft corals were doing fine (approx 5-6 months)... However, gradually my zoas stopped opening and my xenias started thinning... I couldn't figure it out!!... thanks to Gumbii, I figured my mistake and adjusted the salinity... managed to salvage some of my zoas, but lost many others (blue hornets, sunny Ds, mohawks, coco pinks, organism paly, lunar eclipse)...

Thought I humbly confess...

any other similar stories?..

Added iodine like it was alkalinity once probably a shot glass full. Dark brown corals on the smooth skinned Sps for a good 3 months.

Other things that you should test when saltwater is mixed, to not upset your "balance" is; 1) ph with a probe, 2) temp with a probe, 3) alkalinity.

This is more for Sps tanks but a good practice nonetheless.

i think my aging hydrometer isn't as accurate anymore... anyone got suggestion for accurate hydrometer?....

those plastic ones? or the floating glass sticks?.... I heard the glass sticks are way more accurate....

I'm sketch about some of those refractometers.... I just worry about anything that is made by the chinese that are precision dependent...
