thank! so to continue. my old sump was 48 inches long and the new sump closet is only 45 inches long. so I wouldn't be able to use the same sump and I did not want to put the sump under the DT adding more weight. So I ordered a custom tank from Fujimoto aquariums so that I can turn into a sump myself. I ordered it 40x20x20. it would not be able to fit as the closet has a lip that makes the entrance 36" so the tank would have to go in standing up and drop down. With the tank dims of 40x20x20 the diagonal length would be 44" which would fit perfectly in the 45" closet. Well fujimoto really messed that up and built the tank 41x20x21. adding two inches and making the length 46" which would be too long to drop in the closet.

this really stressed me out and the only way to get the tank in was to cut the wall out as you can see in the picture. I wanted the tank a foot off the ground so that I can have room to drain from the sump and easier to view.

That's super clean!!! I'm jealous! Ur own fish closet. I want one!!!

Thanks guys. so the day finally came when I planned to make the switch. the sump was not ready but oh well. placed all corals and rocks in buckets of display water and moved it over to the new tank. luckily i have about a dozen empty salt buckets. it only took an hour and a half to move everything. I moved the fish last and stared at my tank for a while, ate dinner and cleaned up. then i did a roll call and realized all the wrasses were missing. my leopard and two yellow coris wrasses!! so i drove back to the old house and started digging through the sand. sure enough I found all fish and moved them over. They survived and actually looked at me like i disturbed them from their sleep.

i made a temporary sump out of a brute trash can until I could finish building the sump, set up my doser and the mp40s and called it a night.

after a week i finished the sump and added everything back in. Thats when i realized my rubble rock and and chaeto was missing!! i ran to the garage when i kept all the old sand in buckets and found the bucket which i thought was sand full of foul smelling rock and water. it smelled so bad, the chaeto looked fine but it smelled bad also. i drained it and rinsed it but it was all black. i threw the chaeto out, placed the rock in fresh salt water in a bucket with a powerhead.

So I finally got the sump set up and I will be re-doing the plumbing as it looks uglier than I expected. The water will drain on the right side and partially in the middle where you see the valve. That is the refugium section that only drains to the right side. The right side is the skimmer section, I didn't have the skimmer hooked up at this point. The skimmer section will drain only to the section behind the refugium which will be my mangrove section. I have rubble rock and mangroves in there. Then that section drains to the return section.

I lost all my macro algaes and need to stock up with cool macros so if anyone has algae to trim let me know. That section has very low flow and it would be nice to have seahorses in there but I know nothing about seahorses so I have to do my research still.

So the fish closet is exactly that... A closet. So I don't have the room I did when it was all in the basement. So after bean got his frag tank going I got all excited and thought, This is the perfect time to get one for myself. So since i am putting everything in the closet, a normal frag tank would not be best. A long skinny one would be perfect so it does not block the sump.

So coincidentally a fellow reefer was selling one and I thought it would be perfect. It is a glass Mr. Aqua 36x8x9.5 tank. I picked it up and was a little disappointed to find out that the bottom of the glass was tempered. So I just figured I would drill it on the sides. I think it came out great. I only had larger diamond hole saws and wanted to use the 3/4 inch bulkheads I already had so I went to Home Depot to buy a smaller one.
I think it came out great, what do you guys think?

The FSMillions are a comin'! Freaking looks sweet. I should have something in my closet too. But I'm super lazy and unimaginative in the aquarium plumbing dept.

the Mr Aqua came out great. Always wanted to do that with that tank specifically and wall mount it with some SPS colonies in it like a panorama picture frame.

So with all the talk about refugiums today I took a picture of mine. I am going to be ordering a few macro algaes online that I hope no one local has. But for now I just have some "unknown algae", tiny scraps of the red grape and another one that I forgot what it's called.

I added more sand so it's now a 6" DSB
